User Experience

Museum Services

New user experience and user interface for a web application available exclusively inside the museum to promote their services & products on the day of the visit.

Brief and problem statement

The museum’s main problem was to decrease queues at the information desks as they did not have an organized structure to handle many visitors. By advertizing the free service, visitors would be able to acquire information and purchase services without going through the information desks or asking information to the security staff.

Goals and requirements

The main goal was to create a new service following the business requirements, the logistic needs of the museum and also those of the visitors. With the creation of a “welcome app” visitors would be able to find their way around the museum in a smarter and faster way to find information, events, guided tours and much more.

The project

First of all we studied the context and put ourselves in the shoes of the visitors to understand their needs. After conducting interviews we created personas based on interviews and evaluate previous datas.

After creating a customer journey we highlighted the various pain points and the strengths of this new service.

Before designing the best user experience we tackled with the technological infrastructure creating the information architecture connecting different data sources. We defined the possibles scenarios and flows  using paper prototype highlighting all the possible interactions with the new service and presenting it to the various stakeholders without wasting resources and time.

At the end we created a high fidelity prototype and we made some tests with users. Thanks to the feedback gathered we improved the webapp making it even more simple and intuitive.

The final design

The web application we created was designed to change over time depending on the Museum’s needs. Our design choices were guided by business requirements, technical requirements and the needs of both visitors and employees who could not manage the long queues especially during high season.

During the design we paid attention the technical infrastructure and by studying in detail the various data sources of the different services created over the years with different technologies.

This new service has greatly changed the approach between the visitor and the museum, allowing them to find their way between the different services available during their visit.
